The Adaptation Bridge
Using the climate crisis to connect K-12 public education with community
The climate crisis is real and happening. Rising temperatures and increasingly severe weather events are occurring globally, making it clear that community adaptation is necessary, now. Public education is essential to community climate adaptation. The climate crisis requires schools to maximize connections with every aspect of their local community.
The Adaptation Bridge is a path to that vision. It frames the climate crisis, as inevitable and disruptive as it is, as an opportunity to redefine the relationship between K–12 public education and community development. The province of Ontario, Canada is used as a process case to support education and community systems everywhere in responding to the global conditions of the Anthropocene.
